Training - 2011iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
The club is a recognised RYA Training Centre, with its own Training Instructors for both RYA sailing and powerboat courses. All instructors are RYA qualified and voluntarily give their time to run courses at the Club, and help Club members to develop their sailing skills.
Various courses will run through the year. They are advertised on the Whitefriars website (www.wfsc.co.uk) and on the Training noticeboard at the club. A club-wide mailshot is also sent for each course or training event.
For 2011 the following courses are planned (see the sailing calendar for dates):
- the RYA Sailing L1/2 course will be running in the early summer
- A workshop week to develop sailing skills will run at the end of July
- Race coaching session on some Saturday mornings during the summer
- the RYA First Aid course will run in October
- The ‘Club Rescue’ course is now renamed the ‘Safety Boat’ course and will run at intervals throughout the year.
- A Powerboat L2 course will run in February
For those interested in developing their training skills, the following is planned:
- a RYA Dinghy Instructor course will run at the club in March.
- a Club Race Coach course will run at the club in May
Any member who would like to help to coach, instruct or mentor would be assured of a very warm welcome by the Training section – please contact John Andrews if you would like to know more.
If none of the above give you what you are looking for training-wise, then please contact us – if you need help to get out on the water, or to get better, we will try and find a way to help you.
For more information, please contact John Andrews for sailing or general enquires. Pat Ward for powerboat information or powerboat course booking, or Jennie Horton for general booking enquires.
