Rules & Tactics Evening

There will be a “Racing Rules and Tactics” evening at Whitefriars, on 30 March, starting at 1930.

The knowledgeable and entertaining duo of Ivor Keates and John Codner will do their annual double act, and be the presenters for the session. This year, the emphasis is slightly different, with tactics also being discussed.

They will talk through each element of a race (the start, the beat, the windward mark, the reach/run, the leeward mark and the finish), explaining what Rules apply and how to build your tactics around those Rules. Other considerations such as wind strategy will also be touched on.
The session should suit all-comers; even if you’ve never raced, you are welcome to come. Those less experienced might need to sift out some of the more advanced stuff,  but it should all be relevant.

If you listen hard, you might even beat Ivor and John on the water, using their own tactics.

It would be good to gauge numbers attending – please let me know if you are hoping to come – jenniehorton@quarry12.freeserve.co.uk

Sailing 16th January Cancelled

Due to the lengthy period of ice on the lake there has been a delay in getting the rescue boats serviced. Unfortunately the boats will not be ready in time for this Sunday (16th Jan) so racing will have to be cancelled. It is hoped the boats will be back in service for the following weekend, an update will be posted here later next week once the some further information is available.....

Current Sailing Conditions at WFSC

Pat Ward has visited the lake today to ascertain the conditions for sailing (!) tomorrow. He commented that yesterday (Friday) the lake was frozen and as such it was impossible even to get at the Safety boats even though the birds had kept a sizeable area open on the North side.

Since that inspection there has been a snowfall of about 150 mm this morning.

The conclusion is that if you want to turn up for Coffee and watch the wild life that is OK but definitely no sailing.

This afternoon's inspection showed no improvement and Pat agreed with Simon Clark that there will be no racing tomorrow. Apart from the fact that the safety boats are not accessible it would be highly dangerous to sail on a partially frozen lake.

Stand by for the next bulletin about the Boxing Day sailing.
